AHL: 36 years of history

AHL has a long and proud history. Established by 5 former employees of Dentsply in 1986, in the 36 years since launch we have grown to become the UK's leading manufacturer of glass ionomer restoratives and cements.

Not only do AHL supply the UK's leading private label brands of glass ionomer restorative, we also export throughout the world via an extensive network of dealers. In fact, our products being used on every continent on the planet.

AHL also produces a wide range of other materials including temporary materials, impression materials, composites, etchants, bonding adhesives, cleansers and prophylaxis pastes as well as many accessories.

Whilst we have had enormous success internationally, a key highlight has been the creation of one of the leading brands of temporary materials within the notoriously difficult US market, both for in-surgery and 'over-the-counter' (OTC) uses. The OTC materials have now become established throughout the US and are sold in leading pharmacies and chain stores, including Wal-Mart.

Committed to driving quality standards

In 1997, we launched our own brand of quality products called AHL Generic. As well as gaining CE marking, this gave AHL the opportunity to present our varied range of dental materials to a wider market. The same year, we gained ISO9001 accreditation and subsequently achieved the ISO13485 quality standard -  we were the first dental company in the UK to gain the ISO13485:2003 standard. AHL has gone from strength to strength, offering a fast and flexible service together with high quality products at competitive prices.

Dedicated to the dental industry

As well as investing heavily in our own advanced research facilities, we work closely with dental hospitals, universities and other academic institutions on the development of new and innovative dental materials. This means we are able to develop or adapt products to suit individual requirements and customer needs. One such development is the AMALGOMER range of super-strong glass ionomer restoratives. They are the strongest of their type produced anywhere in the world and have finally given glass ionomer restoratives the recognition they deserve.

During the summer of 2008, we relocated to smart new purpose-designed premises and subsequently acquired two additional adjacent industrial units to significantly increase the scope of our output. Production, packaging and QA operations have all been streamlined to offer an improved service, and major investment in new processing equipment and computerisation has resulted in even better efficiency and quality. This recent expansion and investment points to a bright future for AHL, one where we will remain at the forefront of the dental materials industry and firmly committed to UK manufacturing.
